MUMBAI : Triptii Dimri and Babil Khan starrer Qala, premiered on Netflix on the 1st of December 2022. The film has been getting a good response, and everyone is praising Triptii’s performance in it.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Triptii and spoke to her about the response she is receiving for the film, Anushka Sharma’s cameo, and more.
Tell us one compliment that you came across when you felt like ‘yes, this was the praise I was waiting for’.
There are two actually. A lot of people are writing such wonderful things about the film and it always feels good to read everybody’s appreciation. One of the compliments was that this (Qala) is her best performance till date. I want that with every film that I do. When I do a film tomorrow, I want people to say this is her best performance, better than Qala. Then there was this other comment where someone actually compared Qala (her character) to Madhubala and Meena Kumari. I don’t think that I was anywhere close to them; they are such legendary actors. But I would love to do their biopic.

The lip-sync part is a very important element of Qala. How difficult was that?
It is challenging when you have to lip-sync; it is obviously new for me as well. The plus point was that in my college I used to be in a music society, so I was aware as to when I have to breathe in and when to take it out. Also, Anvita (Dutt) took me for all the recording sessions, she wanted me to observe Sireesha, the voice of Qala. So, I just had to go there and look at her. Even on the set I was asked to sing, not just to move my lips; they said even if you are besura just sing.
Anushka Sharma’s cameo is one of the highlights in the film. If it would have been a theatrical release, people would have hooted for it in cinema halls. When you saw the film, what was your reaction to the actress’ cameo?
It was amazing! I was there on set the day her shoot was happening and I was very excited to watch everything. So, it was interesting to see. She looked gorgeous and delivered such an amazing performance, and in those 30 seconds, she was the best. It felt amazing to be a part of a movie where there was this little happy moment.
