MUMBAI: Karva Chauth is one of the most important festivals of the Hindu tradition.
Married women, especially in Northern India, fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. Karva is another word for 'pot' and chauth means 'fourth' in Hindi (a reference to the fact that the festival falls on the fourth day of the dark-fortnight. A few days before Karva Chauth, married women would buy new karvas and paint them on the outside with beautiful designs. Inside, they would put bangles and ribbons, home-made candy and sweets, make-up items, and small clothes.
In our television industry, many celebrities also fast for their husbands in the likes of Divyanka Triapthi Dahiya, Debina Bonerjee, Bharti Singh, Rubina Dilaik and Gauri Pradhan among others fast for their respective husbands.
However, this year, the lockdown which falls on 4 November will be a fairly different one as they would have to be wearing masks along with those mesmerizing outfits and intricate jewellery!
