MUMBAI: Gum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Mein is currently one of the most-watched Hindi TV shows of the present days. This show is also gaining fair TRP ratings since the first week of it's broadcasting.

The plot of the show revolves around the show's main couple of Virat (played by Neil Bhatt) and Sai (played by Ayesha Singh) and their struggles against their corrupted family. The show's plot follows a Marathi set-up; hence the show's characters, the rituals performed in the show, set development patterns and their costumes have to abide by the typical Maharashtrian style. It's important to make the show regionally appealable as well because as per it's plot, the Chavan family hails from Nagpur.

Therefore, while the men can be seen endorsing regular Indian summer-friendly garments like kurta-pyjamas for their on-screen appearance, it's the show's ladies who are the real head-turners by endorsing and flaunting the classic 'Marathi Mulgi' avatar.

Talking about the 'Marathi Mulgi' look, this is primarily enhanced by draping a saree in the typical Maharashtrian way, but what exactly is meant by that and how is it different from the other Indian styles of a saree's drapery?

Firstly, to execute it, one has to endorse a Nauvari saree and then proceed with it's drapery. The term 'Nauvari' represents a single 9-yard cloth. The Maharashtrian-style saree drapery is also referred to as the 'Kaasth saree' drapery. The word 'Kaashtha' refers to the sari being tucked at the back.

This drapery can be executed only without a petticoat, hence it's referred to as 'Akanda Vastra', which means it doesn't need any other attire for it's support. This drapery-style's full-length can be both below and above the ankle-length. This sari is draped so that its centre is neatly placed at the back of the waist and the ends are tied securely in the front, and then the two ends are wrapped around the legs. The decorative ends are then draped over the shoulder and the upper body or torso.

This drapery pattern is not just limited to Maharashtra as earlier, women who have fought in wars and had worked in the farmlands (even in the present days) drape their saree in this way, as the draping of the leg's section individually in the 'dhoti-format' helped to increase one's speedy locomotion. Hence, this drapery is all about judiciousness through it's appeal and functionality.

Apart from the outfit, the striking ornament which is exclusively adorned by Marathi mulgis (especially during their cultural events) is their iconic pearl nose-pin, which is also called the 'Marathi Nath'. The striking feature of this nath (nose-pin) is that unlike the circular naths worn by the Indian women from other parts of the country, the Marathi Nath is more longitudinal and is not complimented/ supported with a gold hair-chain. Also, a precious gem-like emerald or ruby hangs loosely from it's open edge below.

Marathi folks love to possess precious gems and metals. Hence, the wealthy household's ladies are seen endorsing heavy ornaments like necklaces, chokers, bangles, anklets, etc., mostly of gold. Even the supporting wire of their nose-pin is made of gold. They also love to keep their arms covered with a bunch of glass bangles of various colours (preferably green).

Lastly, their signature half-moon shaped forehead sticker (bindi) completes the overall ensemble of the 'Maharashtrian-styled' dressing.

To note, the present-day Marathi mulgis are commonly spotted following the basic Indian drape along with minimal ornaments, if it's not a purpose-oriented event that suit's their culture's demand. However, one must look out for their classic nath, bindi, glass and metal bangles and the heavy mangal-sutra (nuptial chord) around their neck to identify their striking regional get-up's characteristics.

Now, check out the ladies of Gum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Mein like actresses Ayesha Singh, Aishwarya Sharma, Mitali Nag, Bharti Patil, Sheetal Maulik and lastly, Kishori Shahane; who dress-up as the traditional Marathi Mulgis on-screen and look absolutely ethereal!
