MUMBAI: What is the first word or name that comes to our minds when we spell Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki? It has to be the one and the only Czarina of the television industry, the one who self-created these two most popular Hindi telly shows back when it commenced and even now - Ekta Kapoor.
She's not only the creator of these shows, but she also gave the television audience their iconic and most beloved Hindi TV's female protagonists of all times - Tulsi Virani from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Parvati Agarwal from Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. None of the boomer, baby boomer and millennial Indians can ever forget about these two shows and their iconic pivotal characters in particular (if not the storyline).
One can clearly recall those old days when Indian households used to tune into Star Plus every time the clock struck 10.00 PM and never tuned out of the channel till 11.00 PM. For a quick recall, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki used to air from 10.00 PM - 10.30 PM while Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Talking about the two on-screen pivotal ladies of Parvati Agarwal and Tulsi Virani, the former used to dominate the 1st slot of screen-time, while the latter used to dominate the 2nd slot.
Why are these two fictional characters always the prime interests of the old-school Indian entertainment's domain? Because they were undisputedly parallel to each other in terms of on-screen deliverance, acting chops, delivering weighty and morale dialogues and most importantly, their idealistic typical 'Indian daughter-in-law' characteristics (including their rituals, dress codes, values, cultural beliefs, abiding by the social norms and limited penetration of western beliefs and ideologies; which were mostly treated as negative).
With Parvati Agarwal (Sakshi Tanwar) and Tulsi Virani (Smriti Irani) being almost at par with each other as Ekta Kapoor's finest aadarshvaadi bahus, they literally went on being the ideal bahus of almost all Indian households and 80% of all Indian families mandatorily watched these two shows, right from their beginning to end, without any alteration in their hype over the entire phase of their commencement.
Today, let's take a quick down the memory lane trip to witness the iconic on-screen looks of both these on-screen characters of Parvati Agarwal and Tulsi Virani, who reigned the entertainment industry and beyond immense household popularity for almost a decade.
