MUMBAI: Telly actress Mouni Roy is a Hindi television actress who's currently also an active Bollywood fame. She claimed her stardom right from her very first television debut with Ekta Kapoor's popular Star Plus show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, for essaying the role of Krishna Tulsi.
However, she got her breakthrough success in 2011 with Life OK's popular mythological show Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, wherein she played the role of Sati. Next year itself, she also essayed Meera in the same channel's show Junoon - Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq.
For the unversed, Mouni had embarked upon her showbiz journey through modelling and she's also passionate about dancing apart from delivering her fine acting chops on-screen. Infact, Mouni is a trained Kathak dancer.
Mouni has also participated in popular Hindi TV reality shows like Zara Nachke Dikha (2008), Pati Patni Aur Woh (2009), Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 (2014), Box Cricket League 2 (2016) and Lip Sing Battle (2017).
What added on to her stardom fame was her on-screen portrayal of Shivanya, a shape-shifting serpent in the supernatural thriller Naagin 1 on Colors TV, which aired from 2015-16. The popularity of Shivanya's character in season 1 prompted Mouni's repeated cameos in the following two other seasons of 2 and 3, wherein she was seen playing both Shivanya and her daughter Shivangi, who was also a shape-shifting serpent. With Mouni's performance, the show claimed immense fame and went down with time as a Hindi soap legacy.
Eventually, Mouni's fans turned super elated as the actress was henceforth featured in Bollywood movies. In 2018, she made her Bollywood debut in Reema Kagti's sports drama Gold and then featured in the item number 'Gali Gali' of the movie KGF Chapter 1 as it's lead dancer. Consequently, both the viewers and critics lauded her performance.
Overall, her commercial success also helped her bag the nomination of the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut's nomination.
