Rich tributes were paid to the memory of late actress Smita Patil, when the Polish Film Institute and the Indian embassy in Warsaw, with the help of Indian Film Directorate, organized a Smita Patil Retrospect in the Polish capital. The programme coincided with the festival '100 Years of Indian Cinema Week'.

New Delhi-based Priyadarshni Academy will honour Deepika Padukone with the biennial Smita Patil Memorial award for her contribution to the film industry on 18 September (2012). The award would be presented to her at the 28th anniversary global awards function of the Academy, its chairman Nanik Rupani announced in a statement. Similar awards would go out to industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla who would be presented with the Harish Mahindra Memorial Global Award for outstanding contribution to globalisation of Indian industry.
