2014 - Films that will rock Bollywood this year

2014
Last year turned a good one for both commercial cinema as well as offbeat movies. While on one hand, masala movies raked in 100 crore and more, meaningful movies like The Lunchbox and Shahid moved audience to tears. 2014, therefore has started on the good hope that Bollywood will take off from where it left, last year. Jai Ho – January has only one biggie – Salman Khan’s Jai Ho. Only reason to watch this movie -Salman Khan. Period. Hasee Toh Phasee - The pairing of Sidharth Malhotra with Parineeti Chopra looks refreshing. The plot looks different and the trailer has already created a buzz in the market. Finally, the movie is being produced by four different moviemakers all of whom belong to radically different school of filmmaking namely – Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vikas Bahl. Gunday – Block your dates this Valentine. Coming your way are the new Gundays of Bollywood – Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. This new Jai-Veeru Jodi could well take Bollywood by storm. Joining these two as their romantic interest is Priyanka Chopra. Given the way the promos look, we feel Gunday might just rock. Bang Bang – This official remake of Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day has India’s Greek God Hrithik Roshan and siren Katrina Kaif reprising the roles of their Hollywood counterparts. The last time these two paired up on screen for Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara, sparks flew and the on-screen chemistry was well appreciated. One can expect the same, if not more, this time. Action Jackson – The name itself sounds quirky and that’s what you will get when you have a maverick director like Prabhu Dheva onboard. And this time dancing to his tunes would be the actor with two left feet – Ajay Devgn. The movie has an ensemble cast in the form of Sonakshi, Yami Gautam and ex-Miss India Manasvi Mamgai. Expect a dance and laugh riot like always from Prabhu. Kick- A Salman Khan movie releasing on Eid. Need we say more? Happy New Year – The pioneer of the 100 crore club, Shah Rukh Khan, will be back this Diwali. Directed by his bosom buddy Farah Khan, Shah Rukh Khan will be joined by his favourite Deepika in this multi-starrer film. Last but not least, Diwali has always been a lucky hunting ground for Shah Rukh. Also expect King Khan to come up with a new marketing strategy this time round while promoting HNY that will make others go bonkers. We though feel sorry for Abhishek who could yet again be sidelined like it happened during Dhoom 3’s promotions. It’s Entertainment –Ageing superstar Akshay Kumar needs a hit to stay afloat with the Khans. A lot will depend on how this movie fares. Pitted against him is the relatively younger South actress Tamaanaah who herself needs a hit in Bollywood. It could be a make or break movie for Akki. P.K. – Aamir Khan joins hands with his favourite Rajkumar Hirani. As a director, Raju as he is fondly called has been blessed with the Midas touch. Known for his novel and innovative direction, P.K. is rumoured to be a satire on God and Godmen. Now that’s something to watch out for. And with Aamir onboard, Raju may well have another winner on his hands. Jagga Jasoos – Oh boy! This movie is a casting coup of sorts. Ranbir and Katrina romancing each other on-screen! Now who would want to miss that? And directing this one is Anurag Basu who gave Bollywood the highly appreciated Barfi. Humshakals – An ensemble cast again with Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu and Ram Kapoor coming together. A beleaguered Sajid Khan is at the helm of affairs for this one. Sajid burnt his hands with his last offering, Himmatwala. He would be looking for some redemption and so would Saif be after a disastrous film called Bullett Raja.
