While a true patriot doesn’t need a song to evoke the sense of pride in him/her, a heart-thumping number, decorated with meaningful words, does melt our hearts. Here are five songs that bring out the ‘Indian’ in us. Take a look:
Mere Desh Ki Dharti (Upkar):
The song that could very well become the anthem one day, obviously stars Manoj ‘Bharat’ Kumar. With lines that go ‘Dharti Sona Ugle Ugle Heere Moti’, there’s no way you would not swell with pride. It also takes us back to the simpler times of farming, self-sufficiency, and co-existence.
Mera Rang De Basanti (The Legend Of Bhagat Singh):
When a song showcases the spirit and rich legacy of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, along with great lyrics, it's already a winner. Also, Ajay Devgn is at his amazing best as the daredevil freedom fighter.
Maula Mere Le Le (Chak De!):
When you have a movie that pits India against other nations in an exhilarating hockey match, there’s no way for the flick to not have a running theme song throughout. This soothing number is absolutely swashbuckling. The lyrics are especially poignant because it has a Muslim character (coach Kabir Khan) professing his love for his mother land. After all, he proclaims to be the ‘teeja rang’ (third colour) of the flag.
Bharat Humko (Roja):
If the beautiful lyrics don’t strike a chord with you, you’ve Hariharan’s booming voice and A R Rahman’s composition to drench you in the tricolor. We can’t get over the mesmerizing chorus yet. Can you?
Yeh Jo Desh Tera (Swades):
The movie might have failed to create ripples, but this spirited song more than makes up for it. Once again we get to witness Rahman’s magic in this NRI-return movie. It’s no wonder that it makes us smile whenever it’s played…
