If there is one actor who has turned festivals into a profitable advantage for his films, it has to be none other than Shah Rukh Khan. Call it destiny or design, the actor has always struck gold at the box-office during Diwali, a trend that started way back in 1993 with Baazigar. Not only has SRK's Diwali releases raked in sufficient moolah but has also decimated other films that released alongside his during Diwali. With Happy New Year releasing day after tomorrow, King Khan would once again be looking to remain unconquered in the festival of lights. Here's presenting SRK's Diwali releases till date.
Baazigar (1993)- Released on 12 November 1993, this movie was SRK's first commercially successful Bollywood outing. This revenge drama saw him play the role of a cunning lover who exacts revenge from Dalip Tahil by killing his daughter and making him completely bankrupt. Audience loved SRK's anti-hero act and the trend of delivering hits on Diwali had begun.
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995) - The biggest hit of SRK's career was released on 19 October 1995. SRK-Kajol's eternal love story made history by becoming the longest running movie in India. The film still plays at Maratha Mandir and continues to draw in audience by hordes.
Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997) - This love triangle between SRK, Madhuri and Karishma Kapoor was instantly lapped by aficionados making it a runaway blockbuster hit. The movie was released on 31 October 1997.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) - SRK played father to young Anjali and audience just went awwww. The dimpled actor once again charmed the family audience through a heart touching love story scripted by Karan Johar. The movie was released on 16 October 1998.
Mohabbatein (2000) - Released on 27 October 2000, this movie was more crucial for Amitabh Bachchan than SRK who was already ruling the box-office. The movie was declared hit and Amitabh's movie career was back on track.
Veer-Zaara (2004) - Indo-Pak love stories never looked so classy until SRK and Preity Zinta played Veer and Zaara respectively in this Yash Chopra classic. The movie was released on 12 November.
Don (2006)- SRK's take on Amitabh Bachchan's Don directed by Farhan Akhtar became a sleeper hit giving rise to a sequel which unfortunately couldn't keep pace with the first one. Diwali once again proved lucky as the movie was released on 20 October.
Om Shanti Om (2007) - SRK and Farah Khan reunited after Main Hoon Na on Diwali (9 November) to give yet another blockbuster that literally destroyed Ranbir Kapoor's debut vehicle Saawariya.
Ra.One (2011)- SRK's indigenously produced sci-fi didn't impress critics but box-office had a different story to say. The movie did roaring business and the Diwali release date of 26 October helped matters.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) - Yash Chopra's last movie didn't really please many yet the movie made money owing to its Diwali release (12 November) and large number of screens.
