When you talk to Daisy Shah, the first thing that you inevitably end up noticing is her confidence. For a newcomer, Daisy Shah is supremely self-confident, sure footed and absolutely clear about what she wants in life. And unlike others she doesn't mind naughty rumours that link her with her co-stars. In a candid chat with Tellychakkar.com, Daisy opens up about movies, aspirations and of course, Salman Khan.
Salman recently screened Jai Ho for his friends. What did they say about your performance after watching the movie?
The response I received was really great. Among the many compliments that I received the best one came from Suniel Shetty who said that I looked good, danced well and more importantly I didn't overact. 'You have kept it subtle,' were his exact words.
Tell us, where exactly did Salman spot you?
It happened in South Africa when we were shooting a song for God Tussi Great Ho where I was an assistant choreographer. While rehearsing, Salman saw a few glimpses of mine on the monitor which he regularly used to check after every shot. After seeing me there for the first time, Salman decided that if I ever think of taking up acting seriously, then he will give me a break because he thought that I deserved to be in a much better position. He also told me at that time that if there is any project that suits my personality then he will give me a break.
And then you rejected Bodyguard which was offered to you, right?
(Shrugs) Yeah, I said no to Bodyguard because I thought what's the use of being in a Salman Khan movie if you can't romance him.
You gave the same reason to Salman as well?
(Laughs) I didn't give him the exact reason. I just told him that I don't want to do this role.
And what was Salman's reaction like?
He just said Jaise tumhe theek lage. And he didn't ask for any other reason.
So would you say destiny brought Salman back into your life?
Destiny and may be universe conspired to bring Salman and his movie back into my life. Salman is a person who feels that if someone has potential then he or she should be given a break.
Tell us about your role in the movie?
My role in the movie completely suits me. I play a gujju girl who is a complete nautanki and is full of life. Basically a happy-go-lucky kind of a person.
Not all of Salman's heroines like Zarine Khan and Sneha Ullal have been liked by the audience. Do you feel any pressure considering that people may or may not like you?
See you cannot make anybody forcibly like u. If someone genuinely likes you, they will like you and if someone doesn't like you, no matter what you do, they will never like you. I don't feel any pressure as such. I accept things the way they come. But I have immense self belief that I am going to make it big. I have a very positive approach towards life. I see myself at the top of the graph in Bollywood.
What does Salman Khan mean to you in your life?
I won't say he is my Godfather but he's come like an angel in my life when I needed him the most. I consider him as a true hero. At some point in your life, a person comes who helps you in a big way. For me that person is Salman Khan. He gave me my career's biggest break and that way he is my angel.
Will you consult Salman for your future projects?
I will consult Salman in terms of work and other project because he is the most experienced person I know and there is no problem in taking his advice.
What about your link-ups with Salman. Have you spoken to him about that?
We never talk about link-ups when we are together. Media creates this news. And I feel as celebs we need to get used to these things. Tomorrow when I do a movie with another actor, another link-up story will cook up.
But there are strong rumours that you were Ganesh Acharya's girlfriend?
(Rolls her eyes up) Phew...I have had a long association Ganeshji and just because I am a girl I get linked to him yaar. He has male assistants too who talk to him. Why they are not linked? I was his assistant choreographer and I had to understand him in order to work with him. That doesn't mean I am having an affair with him.
Are you in touch with him?
I am not in touch with Ganeshji because we both are busy in our respective lives. I spoke to him before the shooting for Jai Ho happened and he said he is really happy for me.
Which Khan is next on your wish list?
Well whichever Khan comes to me next (winks).
Will you ever take up bold roles like the ones where you will have to wear a bikini?
It’s a very dicey question to answer. Let’s say I am more interested in playing the girl who every guy would like to take home and introduce his parents to. But then there are guys who take bold gals home too. I am not saying no to bold roles but as of now am not focusing on it.
Finally, how should your dream man be like?
I have the right answer to this question but if I say then link-ups will be made so let's say my guy should resemble my father in looks and nature (smiles).
