MUMBAI: In 1998, Bollywood witnessed the release of '2001: Do Hazaar Ek,' a crime thriller that was supposed to mark the promising debut of Rajat Bedi as a lead hero. However, this film turned out to be a monumental disaster that not only ended Bedi's career as a hero but also had a significant impact on Tabu's career.

Despite boasting a stellar cast including Tabu, Dimple Kapadia, and Jackie Shroff, along with the newcomer Rajat Bedi, '2001: Do Hazaar Ek' failed to resonate with audiences. Made on a modest budget of Rs 3.2 crore, the film barely managed to earn Rs 4.4 crore in India and Rs 4.47 crore worldwide.

The film's failure had long-lasting consequences for Rajat Bedi, who never again got cast as a lead actor in Bollywood. Despite hailing from a film family (son of filmmaker Narendra Bedi, grandson of writer Rajendra Bedi, and brother of actor Manek Bedi), Bedi struggled to find success as a hero.

Over the course of his career spanning over 30 years, Rajat Bedi has appeared in more than 40 films, predominantly in negative roles. Despite not achieving solo hits, Bedi is recognized for his versatility as an actor.

While '2001: Do Hazaar Ek' may have been a setback for Rajat Bedi and Tabu, both actors have continued to work in the industry. Bedi, in particular, is known for his role as Raj Saxena in the 2003 hit film 'Koi... Mil Gaya,' starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta.

Despite the setback early in his career, Rajat Bedi remains a prominent figure in Bollywood, known for his acting prowess and dedication to fitness, often sharing workout tips on social media.
