MUMBAI: Dadasaheb Phalke, revered as the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’, remains a towering figure whose contributions laid the foundation for what is today the world’s largest film-producing industry. It's remarkable that despite such a rich cinematic legacy, Hindi cinema has yet to bring his life story to the silver screen. His journey is not just inspiring — it's essential viewing for the nation.

Set during the era of India’s freedom movement, the film will chronicle Phalke’s awe-inspiring transformation from a struggling artist to the pioneer who launched India’s indigenous film industry. Against immense challenges and with limited resources, he carved a path that millions would follow.
Production for this ambitious project is scheduled to commence in October 2025. Aamir Khan is set to begin preparing for his role following the release of Sitaare Zameen Par. Advanced visual effects for the film’s historical setting are being developed by top-tier VFX studios based in Los Angeles, utilizing cutting-edge AI design tools to recreate the period with precision.
The screenplay, which has been in the works for four years, is being helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani in collaboration with Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj, and Avishkar Bharadwaj. The project has also received heartfelt support from Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, who has contributed invaluable stories and insights from Phalke’s life.
With the celebrated team of Hirani and Khan—known for groundbreaking successes like 3 Idiots and PK—reuniting for this biographical epic, the film is set to redefine storytelling standards in Indian cinema and pay a long-overdue tribute to its founding visionary.
