MUMBAI: November 22nd marks the birth anniversary of Jhalkari Bai, one of the members of Rani Laxmi Bai’s women army. Although she was not educated, she was a master with weapons and horse riding.
Ankita Lokhande, who will be essaying the role of Jhalkari Bai in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, gave out a message what a warrior she had been. Producer Kamal Jain too spoke about Jhalkari Bai and the history that lies behind her.
Jhalkari Bai played an important role in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. She served in the women's army of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi.
Ankita wrote that she never thought that she would get a chance to play her, but this film took her on a journey of not only discovering the real Jhalkari Bai but also the Jhalkari Bai in herself.
She said that women who are fighting their own battles should never give up; they should fight with pride and never let anyone put them down.
