MUMBAI: In the Bollywood film industry, Ashutosh Rana is among the most popular and esteemed actors. The renowned actor is known for roles in movies like Dushman and Sangharsh, among others. He has been very vocal about social and political issues, in contrast to many of his colleagues. In addition to his career as an actor, Ashutosh has achieved recognition as a writer, producer, and storyteller.

The actor wrote the widely read book Ramrajya, which received high appreciation for its exquisite portrayal of Lord Ram's life. He discusses how movie makers misrepresent the past of significant themes like the Ramayana and many other topics to further their propagandist goals in an interview with the popular news portal.

Ashutosh Rana has made a comeback to theatre plays after almost 22 years. He is essaying the character of Ravan in the theatre play Humare Ram. He is also someone who knows the nitty-gritty of Ramayan as he himself has written a popular book called Ramrajya based on the life of Lord Ram.

Even though he is extremely picky about Indian cultural heritage, what does he think of modern filmmakers who use revising the past to elevate one religion while degrading another?

The actor said, "People shouldn't do this. Nobody should make a film which jeopardizes the subject. Not only cinema, any story or any news, if there's a hidden agenda, it can never be impactful. Be it cinema, society, media, these things are curated to resolve and not to create more issues and problems.''

He further added, ''In our own way, within our respective fields, we need to be careful of such things. Even if there's a difference of opinion, there's no need to fight; it can be sorted with discussions. And the first rule of discussion is that we need to respect everyone's thoughts."

Speaking of Bollywood movies, a number of them, including The Vaccine War, The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, Bastar - The Naxal Story, and others have lately been charged as being propaganda movies.
