MUMBAI: The relationship between Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul has always been private. The couple married in an intimate ceremony in January of last year, away from the hectic pace and chaos of daily life. They arranged a private dinner to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Pictures from their private dinner went public nearly five months later.

After making their relationship public on Instagram in 2020, KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty have been putting their PDAs online and sharing adorable photos. Rahul and Athiya are said to have met through a mutual friend, grew close, and then fell in love.
Athiya's father Suniel Shetty has consistently expressed his admiration for Rahul, his son-in-law. He talked candidly about his feelings earlier in an interview with the news agency about being the target of offensive trolling on social media. Following Team India's defeat by Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final, the Indian wicketkeeper came under fire on social media for his poor fielding on the day of the match.
He recalled how KL would frequently tell him to stop responding to negativity that came their way, saying, "Dad, my bat will talk." “The faith of the people in him, the selectors, the faith of the captain—it said it all. It hurts me 100 times more than it would hurt Rahul or Athiya,” Suniel said.
