Bollywood museum coming up at Film City, Mumbai

Kareena Kapoor's wax statue
To the joy of tourists coming to visit Mumbai, here is some good news. And also for those in the metropolis who long to go all the way to Lonavala to have a glimpse of the wax museum there, you will not have to travel that far. If everything goes as per plan, we will soon have a Bollywood Museum coming up at the Dadasaheb Phalke Film City in Goregaon in which wax statuettes of film stars will be housed. Right now, the state government has begun their work of getting approvals in place and hopes to start work on the project by next year (2014). The master plan prepared by the cultural department has brought architect Shashi Prabhu and Warner Johnsons on board to design the museum. Observed Laxmikant Deshmukh, Managing Director, Film City, “We have prepared a master plan for the museum which has been approved by our board. This plan is being sent to the government for final approvals.” The plan also includes developing a virtual studio and dissecting various aspects of tinsel town’s glory. The museum will include monochromatic prints, films made in the Eastman colour format and will explain current techniques used in film making. According to the state tourism department officials, the city has limited attractions for the average tourists apart from the heritage structures. With this museum, they hope to tap in on the cinema craze that Mumbai has become synonymous with.
