MUMBAI: Deepika Padukone has been a part of many successful films like Om Shanti Om, Love Aaj Kal, Housefull, Cocktail, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, and others.
Her last theatrical release as a lead was Chhapaak which hit the big screens in 2020. The film was directed by Meghna Gulzar and was based on the life of an acid attack survivor named Laxmi Agarwal. While the trailer received a good response, the film received mixed reviews.
Chhapaak has reportedly based on a budget of Rs. 36 crores. At the box office, the movie took a slow start and collected Rs. 4.77 crores on day one. It showed a good jump over the weekend and collected Rs. 19.02 crore in three days. However, on weekdays, the movie showed a downfall and in India, the film’s lifetime collection was Rs. 34.08 crores.
The movie’s worldwide gross collection was Rs. 55.44 crore. Well, Chhapaak is not a clean hit. It should have done better at the box office to get the hit status. The movie did a below-average business at the box office.
After Chhapaak, Deepika was seen in 83 (cameo) and Gehraiyaan (OTT release). While the former was a flop at the box office, the latter also received a lukewarm response.
Now, all eyes are on her next release Pathaan which is slated to release on 25th January 2023. The movie also stars Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham in the lead roles.
