Activist Hemant Patil has filed a complaint in a magistrate's court in Mumbai against Amitabh Bachchan and a few others for allegedly promoting false beliefs in a TV advertisement.
All this after Patil demanded registration of a police case against them under Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.
Patil's complaint refers to a TV commercial of health drink Complan in which Bachchan reprises a character of a ghost.
Patil says the advertisement promotes belief in the existence of ghosts and spirits and consequently the need for the magic to do away with the belief.
"The food-product company has come out with a 45-second advertisement on the issue without publishing any disclaimer before or after the broadcast," said Patil's lawyer, advocate Wajid Pathan.
Patil had to move the court since the Bandra police refused to register a complaint, read the petition.
Magistrate Sita Kulkarni would hear the case on 18 April.
The Complan advertisement comes at a time when Bhoothnath Returns the sequel of Bhoothnath is to hit the silver screen on 11 April, 2014.
Another mean of publicity stunt?
