Saina Nehwal, the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics (London Olympics 2012), is gung-ho with the news that a filmmaker has expressed his intention to make a biopic on the sportsperson.
It is with this film, the filmmaker, who desists from unraveling his name immediately, intends to promote badminton in a big way.
When we asked her to throw light on the topic, she said, "Indeed, I was told by my people that someone is interested in making a film on me. But there's going to be nothing happening, at least for the next two months, because I am busy with tournaments. And for any such project I will be required to put in a lot of my own time as well to iron out the kinks.”
“Frankly speaking, a film on a sportsperson is the best thing that could happen to the sport. Through a film, people can draw an emotional connect with the game because they get to see the sweat and the toil behind the name."
The filmmaker has also divulged that he was toying between Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone to play Saina in the film. Opined the Olympian, "I feel all the girls in the industry these days are a reasonably fit lot, be it Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone or the rest. Deepika should be a natural choice since she knows the game also. But frankly speaking, I feel the film will draw people to the game. With the film, my long-standing dream to popularise badminton would be served.”
