MUMBAI: Rajkumar Hirani is one of the finest filmmakers of Bollywood who has given masterpieces that have set benchmarks in the industry. His films cover topics and portray them in a very skillful manner which keeps the essence of entertainment and comedy in mind. One such film he delivered was PK starring Aamir Khan which went on to become a huge global blockbuster. The film, blending entertainment with meaningful commentary, critiques superstitions and myths while maintaining a humorous and emotional tone. But did you know? Rajkumar Hirani changed the second half of PK due to its resemblance to Christopher Nolan’s Inception
Rajkumar Hirani revealed that during the early stages of writing PK, Inception was released, and the team quickly realized the similarities between the two films. Both explored themes of changing people’s perceptions and experiences. In PK, the central idea was that if a person’s life experiences could be altered, their cynicism would disappear, transforming them into a different person. However, after Inception’s release, Hirani and his team feared their film might be accused of copying. As a result, they decided to revise the second half of PK to ensure it stood apart and maintained its unique narrative, avoiding any resemblance to Nolan's film.
PK became a blockbuster due to its unique and bold narrative, tackling sensitive topics like religion, belief, and human nature with humor and depth. The film’s strong script, combined with Hirani's masterful direction, resonated with audiences across diverse demographics. Aamir Khan's portrayal of the alien PK was exceptional, bringing both innocence and complexity to the character, while Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput added depth to the story. The film's success showed Hirani's ability to blend entertainment with thought-provoking themes, making it one of his finest works.
