Abhik Banu is all set to talk about a topic hitherto touched upon in Hindi films through his film, Gun Pe Done and it happens to be hooch nexus. Hooch or illicit liquor is infamous for being consumed in rural pockets of our country by poor locals and in most cases this cheap liquor owing to its high content of spirit present ends up taking the life of its consumer.
It is this tragedy that Abhik is planning to highlight through his film. Says Abhik, “We will be highlighting the hooch tragedy in our film. There is a huge mafia that runs this business in collusion with local politicians and police. Millions of people die due to hooch. Infact, people die every day but the numbers are very small and hence there is sparse media coverage on this issue. Recently tragedy struck in Lucknow where close to 100 people were killed. Home minister Rajnath Singh had promised that action would be taken but nothing has happened till now. Kerala and Bihar too had a movement to stop this tragedy.”
To raise more awareness about the tragedy and with the intention of putting an end to the traders-politicians nexus, Abhik now plans to write to the Prime Minister and other minister. “We are planning to write a letter to the Prime Minister and other ministers. We want to highlight that this problem has been mushrooming with the help of the nexus existing between illicit liquor traders and politicians and nothing has been done so far. We are hopeful that the PMO will initiate some action.”
While Gun Pe Done revolves around hooch nexus, Abhik says it is not at all preachy. “99% of the film is entertaining. Film cannot be a preaching platform. But at the end of day, I believe every film should have a message. I have always believed in making films with a social message.”
While Mastram girl Taara Alisha Berry and Jimmy Shergill will play struggling actors in the film, Vijay Raaz and Sanjay Mishra will be seen essaying the role of mafia dons. Veteran actor Anant Jog has been roped in to play the corrupt politician.
