MUMBAI: Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon starrer Bhediya were released yesterday. The film has received mixed positive reviews, and the pre-release buzz was also decent. However, the movie has failed to take a good start at the box office.
On its day 1, the movie collected Rs. 7.48 crore at the box office in India which is below par. It was expected that the film would take a good start of around Rs. 10 crores, but that has not happened. It will be interesting to see where the film will head now after a slow start. A miraculous jump is required for Bhediya on Saturday and Sunday to get some decent numbers in its first weekend. For now, it looks like the movie might have a weekend collection of around Rs. 22-25 crore.
Bhediya has failed to beat Varun’s last release Jugjugg Jeeyo. The film, which also starred Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Kiara Advani, had taken an opening of Rs. 9.28 crore.
Meanwhile, on its second Friday, Drishyam 2 has done better than Bhediya. The Ajay Devgn starrer collected Rs. 7.87 crore which is excellent. The total collection of the film till now is Rs. 112.53 crores.
It looks like in its second weekend, Drishyam 2 will be the first choice for moviegoers, and we won’t be surprised if the second-weekend collection of the Ajay Devgn starrer is higher than the first-weekend collection of the Varun Dhawan starrer. Drishyam 2 is the only remake that has worked at the box office this year.
