MUMBAI: Celebrating the timeless legacy of legendary filmmaker and actor Raj Kapoor, the Embassy of India in Yerevan, in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), is set to host the “Indian Film Festival 2025” from February 7 to 9.

By showcasing Raj Kapoor’s timeless classics alongside contemporary Indian films, the film festival aims to strengthen cultural ties between India and Armenia, while paying homage to one of India’s greatest cinematic legends.

The festival will showcase five classic Indian films at Kino Moscow Theatre, located at 18 Abovyan Street, offering Armenian audiences a glimpse into the golden era of Indian cinema.

As part of Raj Kapoor’s centenary celebrations, the festival will open with an exhibition on the “Life and Times of Raj Kapoor” at 6 pm on February 7 (Friday) in the Big Red Hall of Kino Moscow. Following this, at 6:30 pm, the festival will screen “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” (with English subtitles), one of Kapoor’s most celebrated films known for its stunning visuals and deep philosophical undertones.

The festival continues on February 8 (Saturday) in the Small Red Hall with two iconic Raj Kapoor films: “Anari” at 1:30 pm and “Awaara”, both presented with Russian subtitles. "Anari” remains a beloved classic for its sublime storytelling, while “Awaara”, one of Kapoor’s most acclaimed films internationally, holds special significance as a cultural bridge between India and Russia.

On February 9 (Sunday), the Small Red Hall will host two more screenings: “Teesri Kasam” at 2 pm and “English Vinglish” at 7 pm, both with Russian subtitles. While “Teesri Kasam” is a masterpiece of poetic realism, “English Vinglish”, starring the late Sridevi, adds a modern touch to the festival, highlighting the evolution of Indian cinema.

Entry to all screenings is free, inviting film enthusiasts and cultural aficionados to experience the richness of Indian storytelling. The festival will be held at 50, 2 Dzorapi St, Yerevan 0019, Armenia, and promises to be a celebration of the rich cinematic heritage of India.
