Today 29 December happens to be the seventieth birth anniversary of legendary actor Rajesh Khanna, when filmmaker Ashok Tyagi had promised to release his film Riyasat a day before. The film has the veteran play an ageing don.
But Tyagi says that the release stands postponed as the team couldn't find any distributor for the project. "Though this is Kakaji's (Rajesh Khanna's) last film, every distributor is looking at it with the business point of view. Undoubtedly, he was a superstar but nobody is bothered about his last film. I was quite sentimental about releasing this film on his birth anniversary," Tyagi laments.
When we asked a trade analyst (name withheld on request) about the same, he simply said that if the film had to be of the hands of a reputed director, distributors would have happily bought the film.
Now, what are the chances of the film’s release? "Well, I am still very optimistic about my film because Kakaji's performance in the film is outstanding. I am sure, with the passage of time, the film will find its own way. Now, I am hearing that a few of them are hobnobbing with the idea of releasing the film in March. All I can say now is that kakaji's last film will release in March 2013," Tyagi adds.
Riyasat also features Gauri Kulkarni, Aryan Vaid, Aryeman Ramsay and Raza Murad.
For his role in Riyasat, Rajesh Khanna is said to have sat and watched the DVD of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Sarkar.
Rajesh Khanna expired on18 July (2012) after a prolonged illness and liver infection.
