MUMBAI: Farhan Akhtar made his directing debut with the well-known movie Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. In 2004, he made another heartwarming movie, Lakshya. Farhan reportedly wanted Hrithik Roshan to be one of the heroes in Dil Chahta Hai, despite the film including Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna in the key roles.

On June 18, 2024, as Farhan Akhtar's Lakshya turned 20, he and his business partner Ritesh Sidhwani had an open discussion with the well-known news portal. The actor-director verified the DCH facts when questioned if it's true that he first preferred Aamir Khan for Lakshya and intended to cast Hrithik Roshan in Dil Chahta Hai.

Considering the characters' age and accessibility, Farhan claimed that when he began pitching Dil Chahta Hai, he had Hrithik in mind as one of the stars. He also talked to Hrithik about Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai because he thought the movie was excellent. He also mentioned having a conversation with Abhishek Bachchan.

"But somehow they had other plans... the kind of movies they wanted to do... there's no judgment here, to each their own, so we couldn't collaborate on that film," he said.

Talking about working with Hrithik in Lakshya he said, "It was meant to be, so it happened." He also said that Hrithik was always supposed to be a part of Lakshya ever since its screenplay started getting developed and he was clear about it in his head.

Hrithik had made light of the fact that he and Preity Zinta's hairdo was the one aspect of Lakshya that he wished was different. In response to his claim, Farhan said in an amusing, "I'll have to agree with Hrithik. I never disagree with him.”

When asked what he would change about Lakshya now, he brought up his previous declaration and stated that he wanted to change the audience three times per day. He went on to say that once something is created, it ought to be left alone.

"It felt right at that time, we made the right decisions given everything that we had at that time. So to look at it with a magnifying glass 20 years later and start picking out things, I think it's not constructive. There are things to learn from, that you can apply going forward. But there's nothing that I'd ever change in this film. This film is exactly how it was intended to be," concluded Farhan.

Lakshya is a 2004 military drama about a coming-of-age that was produced and directed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. It was written by Javed Akhtar and starred Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Hrithik Roshan, and Preity Zinta.
