Santoor maestro, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma passes away due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 84. PM Modi took to twitter to pay his respects to the great legend who represented India on a global level because of his prowess as a musical maestro.
He was also suffering from kidney ailments for a long time and was undergoing dialysis for the same.
Born in Jammu, British-India in 1938, Panditji began studying music at the tender age of 5. Santur, a predominant Sufi instrument was also inculcated in Hindustani Classical music and a lot of its credit can be attributed to him. Shivkumar Sharma was also accredited with the Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan amongst his many other awards and accomplishments and composed music for mainstream cinema, that included movies like- Silsila and Chandni.
His humbling presence in the music industry will be severely missed and it goes without saying that India lost another legend today. The internationally recognized legend will not be forgotten and will continue reining the hearts of the country. Many celebrities like Manoj Bajpayee and Vishal Dadlani offered their condolences and respects on social media.
