MUMBAI : The country is in shock over the August 9 rape and murder case at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. In a hospital lecture classroom, a 31-year-old doctor named Moumita Debnath was found to have been sexually assaulted and killed. On social media, the incident has sparked a great deal of outrage and demands for justice.

Celebrities who condemned the act earlier included Parineeti Chopra, Ayushmann Khurrana, Alia Bhatt, and others. Celebrities like Suhana Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Hrithik Roshan, and others have now voiced their concern about the continuous threat to women's safety and called for stern action.
Hrithik Roshan took to his X account and wrote, “Yes we need to evolve into a society where we ALL feel equally safe. But that is going to take decades. It’s going to hopefully happen with sensitizing and empowering our sons and daughters. The next generations will be better. We will get there. Eventually. But what in the interim ? Right now justice would be to put a hard stop to such atrocities. And the only way to do that is a punishment so harsh that it scares the living daylights out of such perpetrators. That’s what we need. Perhaps ?
