Hurt, angry, disillusioned Adnan Sami responds to the Honourable High Court's decision to hand over his home to his former wife

The Mumbai High Court’s order that Adnan Sami hand over his home in Mumbai to his ex-wife Sabah Galadari has sent him into a state of shock. Speaking after the judgement Adnan says, “I’ve been fighting my wife in courts for five years now. The fight is not over. She can take away my home. But she can’t take away my God-given music, my creativity and talent. These shall remain with me, and so will my loving and supportive wife Roya. I’ve lived my life with honesty, without apology or fear of anyone except God. I don’t fear losing anything material. I came without anything. I will go without anything.” So is Adnan ready to give over his home without a fight? Says Adnan, “Of course I will appeal against the honourable High Court’s judgement. After all this is not just my home. It is Roya’s home too. It’s our home. We’ve put every brick in the home together, built it as our dream home. To watch Roya suffer like this breaks my heart. But what can I do?” Adnan fails to see what this snatching of his home would do for his former wife. “She is a millionaire. She has luxury homes all over the world, whereas this is the only home I have. By depriving me and Roya of our home, my former wife just wants to teach me a lesson. But she can’t bring me down to my knees. She can take away my home. But she can’t take away my dignity and my integrity. I will never give her the one thing that she really wants. I will never apologize to her. Because I’ve done her no wrong. And I will never forgive her for how tormented my father was in his last days.” Adnan does feel victimized and persecuted. “I am not anywhere near them. But musicians like Mozart and Salieri were reduced to penury by their enemies. Their art and genius are remembered to this day. A recent example of a musician who was hounded to his death was Michael Jackson. Today his tormentors are in the dock. They are facing charges and worst of all, they are facing the hatred of Michael’s fans. The people who love my music are watching what is happening to me. They will make sure justice is done to me.” Adnan admits he is on the brink of a breakdown. “People assume artistes have money stashed away in all corners of the world. But I don’t have money to pay my lawyers any more. For my former wife the court cases are an indulgence. She has millions. And she has nothing to do with that money. This is her way of keeping herself engaged. But I just want to tell her one thing. I wish she had given away all the money that she wasted in her legal battles against me to charity. The money she has used in courts could have fed hundreds of starving children. But then I guess hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Ends Adnan, “The biggest possession I have is the love of the people of India. My tormentors can harass me to their heart’s content. But as long as God and the love of the people are with me I am preserved from all buri nazar. My legacy is not my worldly possession. It is my music. No one can take that away from me.”
