I expected D-Day to get a 20 crores weekend - Arjun Rampal

Nikhil Advani's thriller D-Day has failed to set the box office on fire (when compared to other flicks). The film received 16.29 crores in the opening weekend. The lead actor of the film, Arjun Rampal accepts, “I expected that the weekend collection of the film will gross at least 20 crores. But I guess the bad weather acted as the prime spoiler. Many shows up North were badly affected. Also Bhaag Milkha Bhaag continues to race at the ticket window in the week two as well.” “But I am happy with the numbers, for we had limited screens and I hope that positive word of mouth will push the film ahead in this week. The producers have nothing to worry for the project has made a decent budget, plus the satellite revenues will help push the finances,” the actor adds. A source who did not want to be named said the film also starring Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Huma Qureshi suffered due to several reasons. “First it was not promoted well so not many people knew about it before it released. Secondly, such a film should not have released during Ramzan and monsoons; you need to be quite smart to look at your release’s window.” “And last but not the least, the film also did not have rabid jingoism, given the Indo-Pak theme or over the top spy antics likes James bond flicks always boast of. All said and done despite what the critics say, these would have defiantly helped in B and C centers,” he adds. The source also supports Arjun’s assertions that things may get better during week days of the first week if the weather holds, as Ramaiya Vastavaiya is fizzling out after garnering about 15 cr. This happened although the producer, Taurani, went all out with good promotional strategies and having managed to get a good number of screens and shows.
