I felt the freedom: Karan Johar on decriminalisation of homosexuality

MUMBAI: Last year, on 6 September, the Supreme Court of India passed a historic judgment of scrapping Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that criminalizes homosexuality. During a recent interaction at the India Today Conclave Mumbai, 2019, filmmaker Karan Johar opened up on what he felt on the verdict day and scrapping of Section 377.

He said, “I woke up and cried that day for myself and for the community because there was finally freedom. It was a historical judgement. And it was just a moment to celebrate one true love. I’m so glad that it is finally accepted legally, that you can love who you love.”

“That particular day, ironically, was my father's birthday. I felt the freedom that day”, Karan added.
