MUMBAI: For some, birthdays are about grand celebrations; for others, they’re about thrilling adventures. But for Namita Lal—renowned for her performances in Before Life After Death, Lihaaf, Country of the Blind (starring Hina Khan), Oxygen, and Football - The Goal—birthdays are about something even more profound: connection.
On 10th February this year, Namita marked her special day in the cherished company of her family, celebrating with her parents, niece, and sister-in-law. “There’s nothing quite like being with family, especially one’s parents, on a birthday—it’s a truly blessed feeling,” she shares. Indeed, few joys compare to being surrounded by loved ones on a day meant to celebrate life.
Yet, beyond the warmth of familial gatherings, Namita embraces a deeply personal tradition—celebrating with herself. “Every year, I ensure I take time to celebrate myself. I love dressing up, preparing a special meal, indulging in dark chocolate, and sipping a glass of red wine. Even when I’m alone, I celebrate for myself, with myself. That’s been my tradition for years—whether I’m travelling on my birthday or spending it in solitude.”
Among the many birthdays she has celebrated, one stands out as truly unforgettable. “Once, I took off on a retreat all by myself. I didn’t tell anyone where I was going, and to this day, nobody knows. It was a time of deep reflection, and I look back on it with immense fondness and self-love.”
And, of course, what’s a birthday without gifts? “Somehow, I always end up receiving red roses and flowers on my birthday. If that continues, I’ll consider myself truly blessed.”
As someone who exudes wisdom and grace, Namita embraces the concept of aging with a refreshing perspective. “Age is just a number, but it’s also more than that—it’s evolution. It’s about stepping into a higher state of consciousness, becoming a better version of oneself. Every year is an opportunity to meet incredible people, reconnect with the past, and embrace the future. It’s a time to pursue dreams, passions, and desires. For me, each year is a miracle, a kind of magic. The best year of my life is always today, because every day is the first day of the rest of my life—and that’s what truly matters.”
When it comes to her career, Namita’s focus has shifted from structured goals to a more fluid pursuit of passion. “I no longer set career goals. Instead, I follow my dreams and passions. What I truly love is bringing characters to life. My journey began on stage a decade ago, and I hope to continue exploring compelling roles—both in India and internationally. That’s my aspiration.”
Adding to the excitement of her birthday month, Namita’s upcoming film, Inn Galiyon Mein, is set to release, making this milestone even more special. As she continues to evolve, one thing remains certain: every birthday, every moment, and every role she takes on will be another step in a life well-lived.
