Esoteric is the word that best defines actor Vijay Raaz. Success or failure hardly bothers this man. In his own words, both 'acting' and 'direction' happened by chance and he never actively tries to get into the rat race that is Bollywood. The end result is he lives with the gay abandon of a child or in other words, a carefree life.
But talk to him about excelling as a comic actor and the anger inside Vijay erupts. Taking not too kindly to people labelling him as a 'comic' actor, Vijay said, "It's the perception of people that I am a comic actor. I have never said I am one."
People's perception apart, even award ceremonies stereotype actors as comedians. A case to point out is the just concluded IIFA awards where Arshad Warsi was declared as the best actor in a comic role for Jolly LLB. When we asked Vijay about the same, the actor said, "Arshad never decided that he should be awarded as a comic actor. It is the IIFA people who decided that. Finally, how many people will we keep on fighting with. As far as I am concerned, I don't have an image. I am imageless."
Vijay is also making his directorial debut with Kya Dilli Kya Lahore.
"I never dreamt of directing. I just decided to direct because I loved the script and got intensely involved in it," said Vijay and also added that he is not averse to taking up direction in future provided people approach him with good scripts.
Kya Dilli Kya Lahore will open in cinema screens across India on 2 May 2014.
