Jiah Khan commits suicide; industry in shock and utter disbelief

Shocking is the word!!!! Yes, the world woke up to a sad development this morning when media reports flashed news of Jiah Khan committing suicide. The 25 year old beautiful belle, who shined in movies like Nishabd, Gajini and Housefull 2, as per reports, hanged herself to death at her Juhu residence yesterday late in the night. The news of her death first came to light when actress Dia Mirza tweeted about the tragic incident at 1.45 am. Expressing his sorrow and anguish at the actresses’ death who worked with him in Nishabd, Ram Gopal Varma said in an emotional chocked voice, “I am shocked to no extent. Never ever seen a debutant actress with more spunk and more spirit than Jiah when I was directing her in Nishabd. May she rest in peace!” Also known as Nafisa Khaa, she had bagged a Filmfare Best Debutant nomination for Nishabd in which she played a teenager besotted with a man old enough to be her father. She changed her name to Jiah Khan before making her film debut in Nishabd in 2007. Born on 20 February 1988 in New York, Nafisa was the daughter of Ali Rizvi Khan, an Indian American and Rabiya Amin, a Hindi film actress of the 1980s who is most remembered for her role in Tahir Hussain's Dulha Bikta Hai. Upon receiving the Ram Gopal Varma offer, she quit the Lee Strasberg Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York where she was studying. Though depressed for some time due to personal reasons, the actress was keen on returning to acting soon and was meeting filmmakers regarding projects. May her soul rest in peace!!!
