Jimmy Shergill, who was battling ill health for most of the time last year, is back with a bang.
Avers Jimmy, “I resumed shooting for Dangerous Ishhq last October. It was tough, for I had been out of action for a long time due to injury of my spine and neck. I had also been under strong medication. But working again gave me confidence and helped speed the recovery process.”
But the Karishma Kapoor comeback vehicle tanked at the box office? “Well, I really don’t know what went wrong with this Vikram Bhatt project on multiple re-incarnation. For now, when the film was recently aired on TV, many people tweeted that it was a good film, why did we not know about it? There could be many reasons for the film’s fate. One could be the promotions, but I always believe that each and every film comes with its own destiny. ”
Jimmy was also disappointed with the suspense thriller Game which failed early last year. “It is really sad when films of such ensemble cast (Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani) don’t work. I had put in so much work as I knew that I had to stand out in the crowd.”
However, Jimmy has now put all this behind and is back to doing small off beat cinema which have given him a niche (Maachis, Yahaan and A Wednesday! etc) “I have virtually finished my bit for Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster (Part 2) with only a small portion left which we will shoot once the rain ends and the polo season starts in Rajasthan.”
So are sequels easier to sell? “I don’t know. A lot depends on the director’s (Tigmanghsu Dhulia) vision for when we made the first part, he was confident of heading that way. Then it was quite clear that Sahib (me) would be confined to the wheel chair, the Biwi (Mahie Gill) would take charge and last but not the least we would have a new gangster in Randeep Hooda (he was the goon in the first part) making a entry in the sequel. Part two is bigger in terms of casting (Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan); it has more political loaded content and emotions as well.”
What else do you have in your kitty? “Well, Neeraj Pandey’s (A Wednesday fame) heist caper Special Chabbis is also done with a couple of hours of patch work left that I hope to finish by August end. In the film, my character is something completely different. I play an overly enthusiastic Delhi police sub inspector who will keep you entertained with his antics.
I will then begin work on my third Punjabi film production Rangeelay. Finally, there is Tanu Weds Manu (Part 2) that will go on floors early next year. I am quite happy with my current space as I am working with people like Tigmanghsu Dhulia whose films I understand having worked with him earlier in Haasil, Charas etc. There are a few more projects lined up with him,” Jimmy concludes.
