Journalist and film director Pratim D. Gupta, who earlier made Paanch Adhyay, says that his upcoming thriller Shaheb Bibi Golaam, starring Anjan Dutt, Swastika Mukherjee, Parno Mitra, Ritwick Chakraborty and Vikram Chatterjee, is based on true rumours.

“True rumours mean those incidences about which we hear stories. They can be true as well as cooked up stories. Actually, this is an oxymoron; we have played with the words,” Pratim said to Tellychakkar.com when asked about his comment on the terms ‘true rumours’.

“We have heard about the stories of ‘Hath Kata’, a contract killer. We have heard stories of mothers who involve themselves in wrong activities after dropping their children in school. These are all stories we hear. Are they true? They can be and also cannot be. We are not sure. I have tried to play with this ‘confusion’,” he added.

Shaheb Bibi Golaam revolves around the lives of a contract killer (Anjan), a housewife (Swastika) and a taxi driver (Ritwick).

When quizzed what made him zero in on Anjan Dutt to play the role of a stylish contract killer, he quipped, “Just look at him at the poster…at this age apart from him who else can look that sexy in a black leather jacket, black shades and with a gun in his hand? Can you name any other actor in Kolkata who can play the role convincingly? Only he can do this.”

A humble Anjan too couldn’t stop praising his director. He said, “Pratim managed to extract the best out of me without being too demanding. Not everyone can be an actor’s director and so Pratim is rare.”

To make the promotional activity interesting, the cast of the film including Anjan Dutt, Swastika Mukherjee, Parno Mitra, Ritwick Chakraborty and Vikram Chatterjee, made a power packed performance before kick-starting the press conference at a banquet hall in Kolkata.

Talking about the activity, Pratim opined, “Bengali films are releasing almost every new week. We wanted to stand out so this activity.”

“All my actors are great theatre actors so I thought why not make them act on stage and give the viewers an idea of the film,” signed off the director.

The film is slated to release on 26 August.
