Kangna Ranaut to play a detective in Nikita Pai

Kangna Ranaut seems to be a hot favourite when it comes to bagging films with strong women-centric roles. Days after bagging a stellar role for filmmaker Vishwas Patil’s film Rajjo in which she would play a mujra dancer, Kangna has been roped by producer Viki Rajani to play a crime sleuth in a film tentatively titled Nikita Pai in which the actress will play a science teacher who also moonlights as an amateur detective exposing supernatural crimes.

Avers the producer, who is also making Namak starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha, “I wanted to make a film on the lines of Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew. In India, it is difficult to come up with a franchise of detective movies but we are trying something new – a commercial film with a new touch.” About casting Kangna in the lead, Viki says that she fits the character to the ‘T’. “She has the kind of persona that can create intrigue and since the film deals with supernatural horror, the character needs to evoke fear among the audiences. Kangna is a versatile actress and is the ideal choice for the film. The movie is being directed by Pawan Kriplani who had earlier directed Ragini MMS. The hunt for the actor who will play Watson to Kangna’s Sherlock is on. Nikita Pai is expected to go on the floors next year in May (2013) and a major portion of the project is to be shot in Kerala.
