MUMBAI: Since a few days, there has been a good hype around Sooraj Pancholi and Suniel Shetty. The reason is their latest movie, ‘Kesari Veer’ and this isn’t just another historical movie based on real events, it’s much more.
Many people know about the 12 Jyotirlingas but not many people know about the story of the very first Jyotirlingas, Somnath. The temple is situated in Veraval, Gujurat and has a solid history.
The Prince Dhiman directorial, which doesn’t cover the whole history, is still worth a watch as it covers the most of important part of Somnath’s history, which is the story of Hamirji Gohil who rose to fight against the Tughlaq Empire.
The Tughlaq Army was determined on destroying the Somnath temple and attacked it 16 times. However, it was Hamirji Gohil and his army who stood up to fight against the cruelty. Does the movie do justice to the story? Does the actors do justice to the characters?
Firstly, Director Prince Dhiman and writers Kanu Chauhan and Shitiz Srivastava have done a great job of bringing to the screen this unknown piece of history that wasn’t even taught in history books.
When talking about actors, it was great to see Suniel Shetty once again on the big screen and it was just how you would expect him to be. On the other hand, Sooraj Pancholi has made a comeback to movies and has delivered well. Sooraj Pancholi plays the role of Hamirji Gohil and his attempt to justify the character is really appreciated.
The ‘Jugnu’ girl, Akansha Sharma, has made her big screen debut with this movie and her charming looks matched with her acting skills are sure to draw a lot of people in for the treat. Vivek Oberoi as the antagonist does a great job and has proven that the actor can always pull-off a negative or gray shade really well.
The movie gives hints of some previous epic movies like Baahubali and RRR and while the first half is good for build up, the second half comes with great form.
The action aspect of the movie is pretty loud but Suniel Shetty and Vivek Oberoi’s persona in the movie covers well for it.
In conclusion, the movie does well to inform us about the basic history story about what really happened at the Somnath temple earlier, even though it’s not the complete history. It’s great to watch Suniel Shetty and Vivek Oberoi back on big screen while seeing Akansha Sharma’s debut could’ve been a better experience, watching her chemistry with Sooraj Pancholi was really good.
Tellychakkar gives this movie 3.5/5 stars.
