It’s tragic Thursday. One of India’s oldest journalist and acclaimed author Khushwant Singh passed away today at the ripe age of 99. It is believed that Singh although not ill was suffering from respiratory problems and breathed his last today in New Delhi. His son Rahul Singh was quoted saying that his father led a complete life.
In his distinguished career spanning several decades, Singh served as the editor for multiple newspapers and magazines and was best known for his trenchant secularism and acerbic wit and satirical writing. A recipient of the coveted Padma Vibhushan, Singh also authored many novels to his credit, prominent among them being ‘Train to Pakistan’, ‘The Company of Woman’ among many others. Singh was also Member of Parliament from 1980 to 1986.
Twitter erupted with RIP messages soon after Singh’s death.
King Khan SRK tweeted:
"Oh no Khushwant Singh is no more. He made our lives so much richer by his literary contributions. "With Malice towards one and all" RIP.
Aam Aadmi candidate and actress Gul Panag tweeted:
RIP! Khushwant Singh. What a man. What a life. Salute.
Another entity from the entertainment world also bid adieu today, Ragesh Asthana, as reported by Tellychakkar.com.
RIP Khushwant Singh and Ragesh Asthana.
