Laapataa Ladies

MUMBAI : Hindi films have always shown the varied issues that women have to face in today's times. There has been an array of remarkable movies that have exposed the norms set by society and have smashed patriarchy. These films have made women feel that they can reach the sky, live an unapologetic life and give fans a reality check.

Fighter

In Siddharth Anand's Fighter, Deepika Padukone plays the role of IAF Officer Minni aka Minal Rathore who gives the perfect takkar to Hrithik's role who is also shown playing the role of an IAF Officer. Minni is a part of the elite Air Force group. Her character proves to her dad that anyone can join IAF, especially when it comes to women. It is a tribute to all the soldiers (women officers) as well who work for the country selflessly.

Lipstick Under My Burkha

Alankrita Shrivastava’s movie shows the desires of four women who do not want to fall under societal expectations. The director shows the stories of ladies who need to cheat, hide and lie to live life to the fullest.

Laapata Ladies

Kiran Rao has set the film in an imaginative land called Nirmal Pradesh where gender discrimination exists against women. It takes us back to the 2000s when we were introduced to mobile handsets and dowry systems. Two brides (Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya (Pratibha Ranta) get swapped when on a train journey. The film tries to show the patriarchal notions related to women.

Thappad

Anubhav Sinha's Thappad deals with domestic violence issues, seen in India, through the eyes of Taapsee Pannu. It shows that women cannot be ok with nonsense after marriage.
