Practically the entire film fraternity, especially ones from the older generation are grieving the death of veteran film actress Nanda.
More vocal among them are Saira Banu, Asha Parekh, Shammi and Sadhana who were supposed to be close friends of the departed soul.
Lata Mangeshkar, who sang the evergreen number ‘Allah tero naam, ishwar tero naam, sabko sammati de bhagwan’ that Nanda had mouthed in the Dev Anand film Hum Dono had this to say about the actress who for the first time in her life played a negative character in B R Chopra’s Ittefaq.
Said the veteran songstress in a statement, “Mujhe abhi pata chala ki abhinetri Nanda jise hum baby nanda kehete the wo ab humare bich nahi rahi,ye sunke mujhe bohot dukh hua. Baby Nanda jab 4/5 saal ki thi tab usne Mandir is film me mere chote bhai ki bhumika nibhaayi thi, main Nanda ke pitaji master Vinayak ji ki company me as child actress 1943 se kaam karti thi, meri Nanda aur uski badi behen Meena ke saath badi dosti thi. Nanda ki peheli film Tufaan aur Deeya thi tab se maine Nanda ke liye playback shuru kiya, bohot acchi insaan thi. Bhagwan uski aatma ko shaanti de.”
Lataji had also crooned “Nana karte pyaar tumhise kar baithe” with Mohd. Rafi for Jab Jab Phool Khile.
