MUMBAI: Guru Randhawa, one of the most celebrated music sensations of India, has firmly established himself as a powerhouse on both national and international stages. From his humble beginnings in Gurdaspur (Punjab) to making global audiences groove to his infectious tracks, Guru has come a long way in his musical career.
Having grown up immersed in Punjabi music and culture, Guru began his journey by performing at local events during his college days. In 2012, he independently released his first-ever single, Same Girl. His breakthrough in the independent music scene came in 2015 with Patola, a collaboration with Bohemia. The track went viral instantly, placing Guru Randhawa on the musical map.
Known for his smart blend of Punjabi lyrics with urban pop and EDM sounds, Guru continued releasing chart-topping numbers including Lahore, Suit Suit, High Rated Gabru, and Ban Ja Rani. These independent hits were later adapted by Bollywood, catapulting him into mainstream success. With a steady rise, Guru Randhawa became a go-to name for film soundtracks. His collaborations with top Bollywood composers and singers further solidified his appeal for seamlessly blending Punjabi folk, urban beats, pop, and reggaeton. His music and visuals—marked by high-fashion aesthetics and clean vocals—deeply resonated with urban youth in India and the global diaspora.
Guru Randhawa’s international breakthrough came with Slowly Slowly, a trilingual track in collaboration with Pitbull, released in 2019. He also teamed up with global icons like Jay Sean and The Chainsmokers. As part of T-Series and Bhushan Kumar’s global pop push, Guru expanded his reach as an independent artist. His songs have collectively garnered over a billion views on YouTube, with Lahore alone crossing an impressive 1.1 billion views. His growing presence on platforms like Spotify and Instagram has cemented him as India’s most-streamed artist globally.
Most recently, Guru unveiled his first independent album, Without Prejudice, in collaboration with Warner Music India—marking one of his most ambitious projects yet. The album bridges traditional Punjabi sounds with global musical influences, catering to a worldwide audience. With this, Guru Randhawa continues to build a legacy and cultural impact, inspiring a new generation of independent artists across India. His growing body of work has played a pivotal role in re-establishing Punjabi music as the dominant pop genre in the country.
