M S Dhoni has been a game-changer for me: Sandip ‘Param’ Nahar

M.S. Dhoni actor Sandip Nahar talks about the film and the challenges in his career.

Sandip Nahar is a small town boy with big dreams. Born in Chandigarh, he has eyes set to rule the glam world in Mumbai.

And guess what? He has tasted his first ‘big break’ blood with the movie MS Dhoni, which released recently. Sandip played the role of Param bhaiya, Dhoni’s confidant and friend.

His journey has not been easy. Good looking and confident, however, he has had his share of reality knock-outs.

“I had a very tough time adjusting to the city and it’s way of working. Finally, after years of running around I managed to get some good roles in shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum and few episodics. Then there was no looking back. I also signed a Punjabi film but guess God wanted to gift me more.”

He reached for Dhoni’s audition and was shocked to find real sardars present to test their luck. “Since the role demanded, I had also worn a turban but then seeing the real ones I knew I had no chance. I auditioned half-heartedly but as luck would have it I got shortlisted. Soon, I met director Neeraj Pandey, who was happy to see my passion. We started shooting for this epic film that has been a game changer for my career.”

When we asked Sandip whether his Punjabi avatar will get him typecast, he quipped, “Even though I had a turban and thick beard, people recognised me and that motivates me that I will never get stuck in the avatar. I am sure people will choose me for my talent and not looks.”

And finally recalling his interaction with the ‘real’ Param, the actor said, “More than me, he was excited to meet the person who will be playing his role. He is a very jovial person who met me with a lot of warmth. Interestingly, his wife had tears while watching the film. She also told me that he has never danced in his life and thus, it was a great surprise for her to see me do bhangra in the film.”

All set to star in another Punjabi movie, Sahil maintains that he has his eyes on the TV and Bollywood industry.

Wish you luck young man!
