MUMBAI: The film industry was in complete awe of Manoj Bajpayee's skill when he made his big-screen debut as Bhikhu Mhatre in Ram Gopal Varma's Satya like the audience. Satya was released in the same year as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and in a recent interview, Manoj recalled how Salman was shocked to be awarded for KKHH rather than him at an award event. Manoj went on to add that Salman "graciously" received the award on stage and stated that Manoj earned it for Satya.

Manoj revealed that he and Salman were both fighting for Best Actor in a Supporting Role when asked about this award ceremony in a conversation with the popular news portal. Manoj received a nomination for Satya, and Salman received one for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
He said, “This is absolutely true because we were all there. When they announced the name, the audience got quite upset and they were standing up and yelling for Bhikhu Mhatre.”
He further recalled how Salman honoured Manoj on stage and said, “Salman, when he went on stage, very gracious of him, he said, ‘I don’t know why they gave it to me. Manoj deserves this.’ He said that. To say something like that, one has to be large-hearted and Salman did that. I really felt good that there are such people in the industry.”
Despite being contemporaries, Salman and Manoj have never shared a screen. Manoj is currently anticipating the release of Bhaiyyaji, his 100th film, which is directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, who also collaborated with him on Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. In addition, Manoj mentioned that he was honored with Best Actor (Critics) at the same award ceremony for his work in Satya.
