Marriage is just a paper contract: Namita Lal

MUMBAI: Namita Lal, who is known for her projects Lihaaf, Football-The Goal, and Oxygen and will soon be seen in Inn Galiyon Mein, feels that instead of giving a name to a relationship, people should focus on making their relationship better. She said, "For me, marriage is just a paper contract—nothing more than that. What truly matters are the relationships themselves."

"When two people are together, whether there is a paper contract or not, it doesn’t matter as long as there is trust, loyalty, and care for each other. That is the most important thing," she added.

She stressed that the concept of marriage has probably weakened and said, "This is because relationships today are often driven by instant gratification and the opportunity to connect with many more people. It has become easier to fall in love but harder to stay committed to one partner."

"A paper contract means nothing when someone has already decided to be with somebody else," she added.

Namita looks up to marriages of Bollywood couples like Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, or Sunil Dutt and Nargis. She feels that they exemplified lasting marriages that people admired.

"Nowadays, such relationships are rare, and that’s just the reality. Especially in creative industries, maintaining relationships is even more challenging. People are constantly thrown into different situations and locations, where stories are created, emotions run high, and deeper bonds can form beyond just professional alliances," she said.

"Marriages must survive despite these challenges, but it’s difficult. It’s a real challenge to sustain a long-term marriage when you’re frequently working closely with different people over extended periods of time," she added.
