Talented Bengali actor Subrat Dutta is looking to start 2015 with a bang. Among the many releases lined up in the New Year, one of the first and biggest perhaps is Boney Kapoor's Tevar. Subrat will seen opposite the brilliant Manoj Bajpai in an important role that he describes as ‘atrangi’ or in other words eccentric. And the eccentricity begins with the name of his character in the movie which is Kaka’di.
Says Subrat, "My character's name is Kakdi. And it's not just colorful but atrangi or eccentric I would say. Right from the name I sport to the dress I wear to my speaking style, everything is really eccentric. And my eccentricity is an important element of my character."
Subrat was intially chosen to play Sonakshi Sinha's journalist brother on screen. But as luck would have it, the director of the movie earmarked Subrat for a bigger and better role, that of Kakdi. "When Mukesh Chhabra (casting director) called me initially, I was told that I would be playing Sonakshi's brother. But later, they decided to give me a prominent role as a result of which I ended up being pitted with Manoj Bajpai in the film."
Tevar is also significant because it marks the first collaboration between Boney Kapoor and his son. Talking about it Subrat says, "Boneyji has an umbilical cord attachment to this film. There is no greater pleasure for a father than to see his dear son standing on his own legs as a hero before him."
While Subrat has many things to look forward to in 2015, he is not greatly upset about his not so successful outing in the movie, Roar this year. Says Subrat, "Failures are part and parcel of this profession and we need to learn how to deal with it maturely. I am proud of Roar. It was a well made film. I feel its positioning was wrong. We should have promoted it as a film for children which is what it was. It would have perhaps done well then."
What however brings a smile on Subrat's face is the mention of Amitabh Bachchan with whom he shared screen space in Bhootnath Returns, a movie he did only to act with Amitabh. Explains Subrat, "It's everyone's dream to act with Amitji and I signed the film only because of that. My greatest moment happened when Amitji after a few shots looked back and complimented me for having delivered my take well. I also had my first ever star struck moment in Bollywood when after our shoot I requested Amitji if I could click a picture with him. And he happily obliged."
Ah! How we like an actor's starstruck moment when with Amitabh Bachchan.
