Bengali filmmaker Anjan Das
Bengali filmmaker Anjan Das, 62, passed away yesterday in Bengal. He reportedly breathed his last at a hospital where he was undergoing treatment for liver cancer. A well-known name in Bengali cinema, Anjan was feted for films like Saanjhbatir Rupkathara, Achin Pakhi and Faltu starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Yash Pandit and Manjari Phadnis which also won him the National Award for best feature film on welfare in 2007. Anjan started his career in the mid-1970s with two documentaries named The Art of Anant Malakar and Tripura. His first feature was Sainik (Soldier). The film was shown in various international film festivals including Berlin in 1976. Another memorable film of his was Iti Srikanta which won a National Award for Best Audiography in 2004. Anjan had also won 11 Bengal Film Journalists' Association awards for his last three films. RIP Anjan Das.
