Paoli Dam talks on her role in Ankur Arora Murder Case

Paoli Dam
Paoli Dam is quite excited about her recent release Ankur Arora Murder Case, based on medical negligence. “A few doctors who have become Gods in the eyes of their patients have turned this noble profession into a cut-throat business. A young child dies due to mistake at the hands of well-known surgeon Dr. Asthana (Kay Kay Menon). Soon, this medical malpractice issue turns into a court room drama. In the film I play Kajori Sen, the lawyer who fights the case on behalf of the dead child’s mother Nandita Arora (Tisca Chopra),” she says. Talking about why she chose to do the film, Paoli, who first came on the 70mm scene with Hate Story, avers, “When producer and writer Vikram Bhatt narrated the script to me, I could fully identify with it for I have a close friend who lost a family member due to a similar reason; the case is still going on.” “When we go to a doctor, we rely fully on him or her for treatment. Sometimes things go wrong. I am not saying that all doctors are bad taking into account that there are many responsible health practitioners. But sadly, there are some bad apples in the mix as well. Our film shows both the sides of a coin. Along with Dr. Asthana, we also have a medical intern Dr. Romesh (Arjun Mathur) who truly believes in The Hippocratic Oath and in the true sense looks up to Dr Asthana,” she informs. Since Poali plays a lawyer for the first time, she actually went to a Court in Kolkata to see for herself how the lawyers behave. “I wanted to see if they fight like cats and dogs and throw things at each other,” she laughingly quips. When asked if this off beat genre film will have a chance at the box office, Paoli states, “This is a different form of high quality entertainment. Not every film needs to have dancing around trees and item numbers. People will love the serious subject, the script and great performances by all the actors.” “One other big benefit of doing this film was that I came to learn a lot about medicine. I came to know of terms like Myocardial infarction that doctors say of a heart attack. Patients should be aware of their health condition and also should be allowed to question their treatment protocols. The biggest problem in India is that there no national health insurance scheme and for any country to grow to its full potential, we need to be educated and health conscious,” she ends.
