Ellen Burstyn, James Caan to star in 'Welcome to Pine Grove'

Actors Ellen Burstyn and James Caan will star in a romantic comedy film titled Welcome to Pine Grove.

Being helmed by Michael Lembeck, the film is based on a story by Harrison Powell. It is being described as "Mean Girls meets Golden Girls", reports suggest so.

Welcome to Pine Grove follows Helen Wilson (Burstyn), an independent widow who moves into the Pine Grove Senior Community and discovers it's just like high school, full of cliques and flirtatious suitors, and Caan will play the character of Dan Simpson, the hot new guy at Pine Grove and Burstyn's love interest.

Burstyn won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, while Caan was nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar for Francis Ford Coppolaa's The Godfather.

The film is being financed by Astute Films.

Demi Lovato's documentary on hold

The sequel of singer Demi Lovato's documentary Simply Complicated has been put on hold by YouTube, following Lovato's ill-health.

According to an online portal, the film was scheduled to release this year but will now be delayed until at least 2019.

Susanne Daniels, YouTube's global original programming chief, said, "We want her to get well, and she'll decide what she wants to say about this. She's had real struggles, and she's trying so hard, and I think the outpouring of sympathy for her is reflective of the way she shared her battles so publicly, so honestly."

Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated was released in October 2017 and chronicled her daily struggles with recovery.

The "Confident" singer was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday due to an apparent case of drug overdose.

Piece of Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame star hits eBay

A piece of US President Donald Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame star is on sale on e-commerce website eBay.

An eBay user, who says he nabbed a piece of the star debris after Austin Clay obliterated it with a pickaxe, has put it up for auction -- with a starting bid of $500, as per media reports.

There's still about a week left on the auction, but as of now nobody's bidding.

Since the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce legally owns the Trump star even the smashed up bits, it has the power to shut down the sale.

Trump's star on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles was vandalised on Thursday.

Demi Lovato's drug overdose was severe

Singer-songwriter Demi Lovato's drug overdose was "severe" and she could have died.

TMZ reported that the 911 call did not come a minute too soon, because Lovato was in dire straits.

"She could have died," an online publication quoted a source with "firsthand knowledge" as saying.

She was unconscious when she was discovered at around 11.30 a.m. on 24 July and the 911 call was placed.

Lovato received Narcan, an emergency treatment for narcotic overdoses at her home, to counter the effects of opioids.

Lovato and those who were at the house refused to disclose the drug or drugs that caused her to overdose.

The person at Lovato's home asked the dispatcher if the emergency 911 vehicles could come without sirens. However, the dispatcher informed the caller the sirens would stay on.

Lovato remains hospitalised.

Those around her want her to enter a rehab facility when she is released, but ultimately the decision is hers.

Michelle Williams married Phil Elverum secretly

Shutter Island fame actress Michelle Williams revealed she has secretly married musician Phil Elverum.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the former lady love of late actor Heath Ledger disclosed that the wedding was a secret ceremony with friends and family in attendance in Adirondacks, as per media reports.

The 37-year-old actress has a 12-year-old daughter, Matilda, with Ledger.

Elverum is father to a three-year-old from his marriage to Genevieve Castree, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2015.

Talking about her husband, the actress said, "Obviously I've never once in my life talked about a relationship, but Phil isn't anyone else. The way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free."

Ledger died in New York City in 2008 after taking a fatal mix of prescription drugs.

They had dated for three years after meeting on the set of their 2005 film Brokeback Mountain.

"I never gave up on love. I always say to Matilda, 'Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes'," added Williams.

'In The Dark' writer wanted to emulate Roald Dahl

Emmy winner Danny Brocklehurst, writer of the British series In The Dark, says popular British novelist Roald Dahl was the first writer he wanted to emulate.

"Roald Dahl was the first writer I wanted to emulate and he has remained inspiring throughout my life," Brocklehurst said in a statement.

Speaking about his favourite book, he said, "'The Catcher in the Rye' literally changed my life and pointed me on a path towards education and the career I now have. I owe it everything."

In The Dark is one of the shows that will be aired on Zee Cafe in India.

The channel in association with BBC Worldwide has brought award-winning British dramas with the second edition of its content block BBC First.

Rhys praises wife after drunken plane outburst

Irish actor Jonathon Rhys, who was earlier detained at an airport for being involved in a verbal fight with his wife Mara Lane and smoking e-cigarettes on a flight, complimented his life partner for supporting him always.

Asked if Mara helps him with his struggles, Jonathan told people.com, "Oh yes, my wife is a superior woman. She's incredible. I couldn't be luckier."

The Velvet Goldmine actor also opened up about his sobriety saying, "Most of the time I handle it pretty well. But, every so often you make a stupid mistake. But living life in the public eye is very different. Remember, I've been an actor for 25 years and the whole world has changed enormously since I've started becoming an actor. It's very difficult to be left alone."

Lane also spoke about the incident on Instagram earlier this week, explaining that her husband was working on his anger issues and that the incident on the flight wasn't serious.

"We were in South America specifically working holistically through anger issues that result in these kinds of episodes. When in it… he is not in a frame of mind where he can really even comprehend the repercussions and necessary response to his own actions," Lane's post read.

"Rhys extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused to anyone travelling yesterday," she added.

Burberry faces backlash for burning 28.6 million pounds worth goods

Luxury brand Burberry is facing criticism for burning unsold clothing and beauty products worth millions of pounds in order to protect its brand value.

Social media users have criticised the company for wastefully destroying clothing instead of putting it on sale or donating it to a charitable cause, as part of a practice used by luxury brands to keep their products in the hands of only those who can afford them at full price, reports suggest so.

An open letter posted by the online resale giant "thredUp" called out the British brand, saying, "We can't afford to waste perfectly good clothes anymore. We are in the midst of an environmental crisis exacerbated by the fashion industry."

It claims the fashion industry causes 10 per cent of global carbon emissions.

"Today we invite you to send any unsold Burberry product to thredUp for resale back into the circular economy, and we'll donate 100 per cent of the proceeds to the environmental charity of your choice."

According to Burberry's annual report, released in June 2018, "The cost of finished goods physically destroyed in the year was 28.6 million pounds (about $37.8 million), including 10.4 million pounds (of destruction) for beauty inventory."

In 2017, they burned 26.9 million pounds worth all in the name of exclusivity.

However, the brand said that the energy that was released from burning the clothing was captured, making it environmentally friendly.

Burberry has careful processes in place to minimise the amount of excess stock we produce."

Twitter users also spoke up about the wastefulness and ethics of Burberry's decisions, including actor Russell Brand, who wrote, "This makes you feel an odd sense of anguish and doom."

Others pointed out that many fashion brands follow suit, and Burberry doesn't deserve the sole blame for sticking to the status quo.

Burberry has been associated with celebrities like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Lily James and Tom Holland.

TV director Allen Baron accused of sexually harassing assistant

Allen Baron, a director on 1970s shows such as The Love Boat and Charlie’s Angels, has been sued for sexual harassment by an assistant, Anna Victoria Dey.

He was sued on Friday by the assistant, who accused him of asking her to touch his penis after he took erectile dysfunction pills, reports suggest so.

Dey said she was hired in September 2017 to work as Baron's assistant, which involved doing errands and preparing meals. She said that Baron, 91, became aroused after taking Cialis and would ask her to touch him.

She said that she repeatedly refused and told him to put his penis away. He also asked her to dry him off after he got out of the shower, the suit states, taking advantage of her kindness to get him to rub his legs and buttocks. Dey said she was fired in January.

Reached for comment, Baron denied the allegations.

"She is scamming me. There is not a scintilla truth of anything. I am 91-years-old. There was no sexual thing," he said.

In the complaint, Dey alleges that Baron would brag about his sexual conquests during his years in the entertainment business.

"Baron also claimed to have forced numerous Cuban women to have sexual intercourse with him in exchange for roles in the 1959 movie Cuban Rebel Girls," the complaint alleges. Baron was an assistant director on the film.

"Baron explained to Dey that any woman who did not perform sexual intercourse with him was ‘guaranteed' not to get the part."

Baron also bragged about sleeping with Farrah Fawcett while shooting Charlie's Angels in the late 1970s, according to the suit. Dey also alleges that Baron commented on Harvey Weinstein's victims, calling them "stupid and money hungry" and said that he got away with similar conduct because "women knew better".

Dey said she was fired after the two got lost on a trip to a Spectrum cable store to fix his remote.

Peter Dinklage to star in 'Rumpelstiltskin'

Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones will be starring in the Rumpelstiltskin movie.

Sources told a leading media portal that Sony is in development on Rumpelstiltskin movie with Dinklage attached to star and produce.

Patrick Ness has been brought on to pen the script with Karen Rosenfelt, Circle of Confusion's Matt Smith and David Alpert, David Ginsberg, and Josh Weinstock also producing. Sources say the film is still in deep development and would not be Dinklage's next project after Game of Thrones ends.

They add, however, that it is a priority for the actor and studio.

Plot details are being kept under wraps aside from the film focusing on the mythical character that Dinklage would play. The character first appeared in a Brothers Grimm tale and follows a miller who lies to the king, telling him that his daughter can spin straw into gold.

The king calls for the girl, shuts her in a tower room filled with straw and a spinning wheel, and demands she spin the straw into gold by morning or he will cut off her head. When she has given up all hope, an imp-like creature, also known as "Rumpelstiltskin", appears in the room and spins the straw into gold in return for her necklace.

Though the return is good in the short term, Rumpelstiltskin's motives lie in the long term and end up costing the girl more than she could have bargained for.

There have been many variations of the story over time and, most recently, the character has played a major role in the long-running series Once Upon a Time with Robert Carlyle playing the character.

It is unknown if the story will be set in modern times or its original setting.

Dinklage recently hit a new milestone by recording his seventh Emmy nomination for Game of Thrones, the most nominations for any actor for playing the same character.

On the film side, Dinklage was most recently seen in the Oscar-nominated Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Avengers: Infinity War.

I don't go looking for roles of strong women: Actor Rebecca Ferguson

Rebecca Ferguson feels lucky that "men write incredible roles" for her. But the actress says she doesn't go looking for "strong roles".

"It is funny because when I read a script, I don't read it from that perspective. I don't pick a role on that basis or go looking for strong women (that I can portray on-screen)," Ferguson said when asked about the strong characters that she has brought alive on the big screen.

She wonders if strength translates to whether the character has a "purpose" in the narrative.

"Maybe it means that the character has a purpose. I don't think strength is only physical strength. I think (it is about) being able to create a purpose for your character. I like the idea if you take a person out of the film then that film will have holes. And that is very important to me. Otherwise there is no necessity of that person," she added.

The Swedish-English actor has made a name for herself in Hollywood by being part of projects like Hercules, Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation, "The Girl on the Train and The Greatest Showman. She is back as Ilsa Faust in Mission: Impossible Fallout.

The actress is going forward in her career with a fearless attitude.

"I am who I am and I do what I do. I don't stand down and fear the consequences of being who I am with men and women. Maybe, I am lucky that I have had men write incredible roles for me," she added.

Ferguson said it is a "good time" in Hollywood courtesy the #MeToo and Time's Up movements, which are bringing people together to create an equal workplace environment.

"We are in a good time right now. There are a lot of discussions and I can feel it on the sets. It is not only in the film world. It is all over and hopefully it is just the beginning and it will continue."

The actress lauds the Mission: Impossible film franchise -- which stars Hollywood icon Tom Cruise as the main lead, Ethan Hunt -- for having gender equality at its core.

"I always felt very equal and felt like a women amongst the men. But that is also because I got to do everything that they were doing. We were training together and having fun together.

"So, even before shooting the film with Vanessa Kirby and Angela Bassett and Michelle Monaghan the quality is already established on the set, which is fantastic in a way it should be," she said.

Talking about her character Ilsa Faust, she said, "I love her. I think she is interesting, fascinating and I think what makes her relatable for me is that there is not just the good and bad sides.

"There is the middle ground. She has one side which is very exciting but she also has vulnerability as part of her personality."

Mission: Impossible Fallout -- a Paramount Pictures movie -- is distributed in India by Viacom18 Motion Pictures. It opened in India on Friday in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
