MUMBAI: Mahashivratri is not only about celebrating a festival for producer Chitra Vakin Sharma. Chitra, who has produced projects such as Tandoor, Rakthanchal,  Bhram, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Pehle Pyaar - Less Than 1% Chance, says that this is a day she dedicates to deep introspection.

“it is a night of devotion, reflection, and surrender. Mahashivratri isn’t just another festival for me, it’s a night of deep connection, surrender, and stillness. It’s when the energy around feels different, more alive, more powerful. The world slows down, but within, something awakens. It’s not just about rituals; it’s about experiencing Shiva, not as a deity sitting far away, but as a presence within. It’s about letting go, quieting the mind, and allowing yourself to dissolve into that stillness,” she says.

Talking about how she celebrates the night, she says, “As the owner of Jupiter Hub on YouTube, my connection with sound plays a huge role in my spiritual journey. On this night, I listen to my chants in complete silence. Not because silence is emptiness, but because in silence, the sound truly speaks. Chants aren’t just music; they are vibrations that align us with something far beyond words.”

Talking about the significance of Mahashivratri in her life, both personally and professionally, she says, “Mahashivratri is the most important night of the year for me. Being a Shiva bhakt, this night is deeply personal, it’s not about celebration, it’s about surrender. It’s my moment with Him, my chance to step away from everything else and just be. My devotion has taken me to almost all the Jyotirlingas, except one, and to most Shiva temples across the country. Each visit has been an experience, a reminder that Shiva is everywhere, yet within,” she says.

She adds, “Professionally, this night reminds me why I do what I do. Sound is not just entertainment, it has the power to heal, transform, and elevate the soul. Every chant I share through Jupiter Hub carries a piece of that power, and Mahashivratri strengthens my purpose, to create and share music that goes beyond just listening and becomes an experience.”

As for fasting on this day, this is something that comes naturally to the producer. “I started fasting on Mahashivratri when I was just 10. Back then, it was simple, I’d eat fruits and have one meal. As I grew, so did my devotion. In my 20s, I switched to a Satvik fast, and about 10-12 years ago, I took the step into Nirjala Vrat, no food, no water, just devotion. For me, this day is sacred. I take a break from everything, no work, no distractions. This is my time with my Supreme Power. The world can wait, but this day belongs to Shiva.”

She adds, “In fact, I feel more energised. The only difference is that I go deeper into my rituals, my silence, my connection. Every Monday, I fast for Shiva, but Mahashivratri is different, it’s bigger, stronger, more intense. It’s the night where nothing else matters. I call myself a Shiva bhakt, and in my heart, I just hope He has accepted me as one.”

She adds, “A real fast isn’t just about avoiding food and water. It’s about watching yourself, your actions, your words, your thoughts. It’s about being aware of how you speak, how you treat people, what you allow in your mind. Because at the end of the day, when you break your fast, you should feel a deep satisfaction, knowing that you truly lived this day in devotion, that you deserve that first sip of water, that first bite of food. Fasting isn’t about punishment; it’s about purification. And when you do it with the right intention, you don’t feel weak, you feel powerful. Just think about Shiva, and you’ll have all the energy you need.”
