A R Rahman makes Alia Bhatt croon for Highway
Music maestro A R Rahman really has a knack of unearthing unusual singing talents. Of the many people he has given a break as a singer, the latest one happens to be actress Alia Bhatt. The pretty lass has sung a lullaby called 'Sooha Saha' under the guidance of Rahman for her next movie, Highway. However, before Rahman honed her singing skills, it was director Imtiaz who actually noticed Alia's flair for singing. Recollecting how he discovered the singer within Alia, Imtiaz says, “We were sitting in this room after a shoot and Alia was casually humming Rahman sir's Jiya re Jiya from Jab Tak Hain Jaan. I immediately thought she would make a good singer and put the suggestion through to Rahman Sir who took the final call.” And when Imtiaz did suggest Alia's name, Rahman didn't trust him initially. “I didn't trust Imtiaz initially when told me about Alia's singing capabilities. But when she learnt the song and sang it for me, I was impressed with her natural singing ability and only had to guide her a bit.” Alia, on her part, says that to stand and sing in A R Rahman's studio was an out-of-the-world experience. “I am essentially a bathroom singer. However, Imtiaz was confident about my abilities and suggested my name. And Rahman sir was just fantastic. He kept on joking throughout the entire recording session so as to keep the atmosphere light. I am really grateful and thankful to him for the entire experience.” The 21-year old actress also said that she is open to more singing assignments. Well looks like Priyanka Chopra has finally found some competition in Bollywood. Don't be surprised if you see Alia coming out with an exclusive solo soon.
